How about a world where something from another universe broke through and corrupted it. It could be after effects from a previous Timebreaker. Maybe his corpse is radiating some kind of deadly magic or something.

It just occurred to me that previous timebreakers wouldn't HAVE to be humans. They'd have to be intelligent, but not human. Along the way in his Odyssey, Timothy should discover the remnants of previous timebreakers own odysseys, eventually finding some history that reveals what a timebreaker really is for.
