Shaders and Texture Packs

Shaders and Texture Packs

Postby Phauss » Thu Sep 01, 2011 3:27 pm

I'll start this off with a mod that changes the aesthetics of things. A water shader mod!

Here's a mod that puts a minimap in the top-right corner of the window. It's pretty handy when you're underground. There are a few other mods in the link, so look for ZanMinimap.

Here's a page with some interesting things to do with dat files from your worlds. Reload an untouched world identical to the original, switch between creative and survival, etc.

It's been a while since I've done anything with this thread, but I figured I should post some cool stuff here.

I've been testing different shader packs using vanilla textures with render setting at 12 (Normal+ in Optifine settings.) Each shader pack has different versions found at their respective links. Performance varied greatly depending on different conditions, but each pack was at least decent, and I believe all would be good or better in an underground setting.

Adding a shaderpack is a lot like adding a resource pack. Go to the options menu, click "Shaders", and then open the folder to paste in some shader packs. There are some options on the right you can change to increase FPS. (I strongly suggest you play around with those settings. It could be a 35 FPS difference.)

I'm currently using Conquest, a 3D resource pack with sounds and a few other neat tricks (which I haven't played around with).

I have some screenshots for you.

I really, really want that old, overgrown, antiquated look. Conquest is giving it to me. This is right outside my tower:

But there's more really cool stuff about it. 3D models look pretty good in general, but bookcases are really fucking awesome.

It makes your banners look fancy, and torches placed on walls get free holders (no more anvils!):

Also it's super easy to tell which crops are ready!

Distance shot for some reason:

I also went to Hunter's and Olson's and took a few snaps. Unfortunately, it looks like placed Oak Wood is broken for me. I'm going to look into it. Because of this, there are issues at Hunter's place. But here are a few quick snaps!

The aforementioned other tricks I mentioned are that Conquest uses a lot of unused metadata to make a lot of new unique blocks. This feature, along with connected textures, requires you to use MC Patcher or Optifine. I ran MC Patcher but that's the first place I'll look for fixing the Oak Wood blocks. Otherwise it might be an issue with the pack only being updated to 1.9.

Here's a YouTube showing off some stuff:

Oh wow, texture packs are a whole lot fancier than I remember. That looks pretty awesome. Reminds me a bit of a texture pack I played around with on the original vanilla server, shown in my quarry track thread.

Yeah man, a lot of these 3D models look really, really good.

Also, as it turns out it isn't placed oak wood that fucks up, but horizontal or sideways oak wood. Figured that out when I saw some fucky blocks in a tree. Sucks. Hope it gets fixed soon.
